Just before WWII DAF developed an amphibious 4-wheel-drive vehicle with 4-wheel steering.

The Citroen engine was in the center of the vehicle. The occupants sat back to back. There was room for 2 passengers and 2 drivers. The steering in the back was locked under normal use, but if necessary both the front and the back wheels would steer. It was possible to reverse the direction from forward to reverse and to steer the vehicle from the back position and still use all the forward gears.

I think I've heard of this one before. There were a number of other interesting spins on the "same coming and going" vehicle after the war, but none 4wd+amphib, of course. The Dornier Delta and subsequent Zuendapp Janus were the best known.

Outside that, for a purely mechanical close relative, you've got the famous Twini Mini and an experimental 4wd Mini Moke they made.

The left part (right part in the photo) is the front because of the headlights. :)
